Children’s Respite Trust Adventure Run with TrailX

Trail Running at Pippingford Park, Nutley, East Sussex
Saturday 13th July 2024

We’re thrilled to be partnering with an amazing local charity, the Children’s Respite Trust – this event isn’t just about running in a stunning private estate but also promoting awareness and fundraising for CRT, so that they are able to continue improving the lives of many children and their families across the South East.

This exciting trail run offers a choice of three distances; the 3km Family Run, and the 5km or 10km Adventure Runs. Whichever distance you choose you’ll get to enjoy totally off road, single lap route within Pippingford Park, a stunning private estate nestled in the heart of the Ashdown Forest. For event day we have exclusive access to the estate so you won’t have to worry about sharing the woods with other users, just what you need to enjoy some mid-summer trail running.

This event is for every trail runner, from 5 year olds to those who should know better, regardless of experience. All of the routes are challenging so we encourage you to take them at your own pace, even if that means walking or stopping to take the views in when you fancy it.

A great off-road run, the TrailX way!

More information about Children’s Respite Trust

The Children’s Respite Trust was founded in 2010 on the simple premise that far too many families face unbearable pressures of living with the care needs of a disabled child. The stark reality was that the number of children with disabilities far outweighed the available spaces in respite centres, putting immense stress on these families.

By the end of 2012 the Trust had enabled several families to enjoy respite breaks however they realised that families needed more ongoing support. In early 2013 they began commissioning care staff to work directly with families in their own homes and in the community. Slowly the Trust built up a community-based care team to support families throughout Sussex, parts of Surrey and into Kent and they’re still working hard for disabled children and their families today.

The conclusion of 2017 brought a monumental step—the Trust found a new home within a spacious building in Uckfield. From this vibrant space, they have been able to host a variety of events for families and ultimately transform it into the welcoming Centre it is today. Lots of time and energy has been invested into the building to ensure it meets the highest standards of care and consideration.

Since the move into their own space the Trust has grown from strength to strength including the introduction of many new services. This includes a specialist SEN nursery called Little Stars, a Siblings Group and full family events that make holiday celebrations accessible for all.

The Children’s Respite Trust relies on the generosity of the community to make their work possible for the disabled children and their families throughout Sussex and Kent. Contact them today to discuss how you, your community group, company, school or sports group can get involved with the charity by calling 01825 817417 or emailing [email protected]

Route details

All three routes offer varied terrain with a mixture of woodland trail running and open grass or gravel tracks.

Each distance starts on a wide grass track before making their way into the woodland, along trails that ebb and flow through the trees. A mixture of single tracks and wide paths bring all runners back to the start/finish area where the 3km runners get to celebrate at the finishline but both the 5km and 10km options head out for more.

From here the routes take in the first proper climb and then descend to the valley floor where the 5km runners take a left turn back to the finishline and the 10km route takes in the second of four significant climbs on the course. The top of this hill opens onto stunning heathland with views for miles. After traversing the heathland via a few muddy sections and two small gullies, it’s an exciting route through mixed terrain to the finish area where you can relax in the sunshine and recover!
